Adequacy decision: EU determines that UK has an adequate level of data protection
29 Oct 2021
We previously published an article detailing the transfer of personal data between the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom (UK) post-Brexit. You can find that article here.
On 28 June 2021, the European Commission determined that the UK had an adequate level of data protection. This means that for transfers of personal data between the EEA and UK no further safeguards are necessary.
The UK joins a small list of other countries that have been recognised as providing an adequate level of protection. The list of countries is published on the EU Commission’s website here.
